The Global Village

Marshall McLuhan had been arguing since 1962 that the world is becoming a “global village”. Marshall McLuhan is a Canadian writer who had believed that worldwide communication is becoming possible to make friends, do business, to shop as easily as people who live small villages can do easily. Traveling had also been shortened because of train, cars, and planes making place seem closer to people. News spreads like a bolt of lightning around the world on TV’s, radios, Internet and even cell phones.

Many companies had also been establishing their goods around the world and opening factories to produce their products. The factories would produce their products to sell and even import to different cities around world. Stock exchange has caused these factories around the world to open. This can also be called globalization to some people. Some people however are greatly against globalization and find it to be devastating the world, as we know it. People around the world are doing protest on globalization, like major protest that happened in Seattle called “Battle of Seattle”.

Globalization and trade had begun as early as the roman’s lived, where they traded with the Chinese bring each other gifts and goods from their land. Other parts of the world had also traded like spices, slaves, discoveries etc…

The industrial revolution had change Britain and the world, as we know it today. People had invented great machine like a steam powered engine for trains. They had begun building factories in Britain which could have been textile mills and other goods, this was a big step into the future.
